Goldman Exec Peter Mintzberg Named New CEO of Grayscale

Grayscale Investments, the world's largest cryptocurrency asset manager, has announced the appointment of Peter Mintzberg as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective August 15, 2024. Mintzberg will succeed Michael Sonnenshein, who has decided to step down to pursue other interests. Until Mintzberg assumes his role, Grayscale's Chief Financial Officer, Edward McGee, will act as the principal executive officer.

Mintzberg brings over 20 years of experience in asset management, currently serving as the Global Head of Strategy for Asset and Wealth Management at Goldman Sachs. He has also held significant positions at Apollo Global, BlackRock, and other leading firms. Alongside his CEO role, Mintzberg will join Grayscale's Board of Directors. Barry Silbert, founder and CEO of Grayscale's parent company Digital Currency Group, expressed enthusiasm about the new leadership.

This leadership transition follows Grayscale's withdrawal of its application for an exchange-traded fund tied to ether futures earlier this week. The company has been pivotal in the cryptocurrency market, notably with its Grayscale Bitcoin Trust, and continues to navigate a dynamic and evolving industry landscape.
