Gérard Depardieu Detained for Questioning on Assault Claims
French actor Gérard Depardieu has been taken into police custody in Paris for questioning in connection with allegations of sexual assault. The 75-year-old actor, who is an iconic figure in French cinema, faces accusations from two women relating to incidents on film sets between 2014 and 2021. The claims include inappropriate touching and use of crude language. These allegations come in addition to a previous investigation where Depardieu was charged with rape and sexual assault in 2020, following a complaint from actress Charlotte Arnould.
Despite the seriousness of the allegations, which also include accounts from over a dozen other women citing harassment and assault, Depardieu maintains his innocence, denying any wrongdoing. The actor, recognized internationally for his work in movies like "Green Card" and "The Last Metro," has previously stated that he has never abused a woman. The investigations are ongoing as authorities continue to examine the details of the reported incidents.
