General Francis Ogolla's Body Arrives in Kisumu for Final Honors

The late Chief of Defence Forces, General Francis Ogolla, was laid to rest in his home village of Ng'iya, in accordance with his final wishes as stated in his will. His burial, which followed the cultural practice of being wrapped in sheets, took place within 72 hours of his passing. General Ogolla tragically died in a helicopter crash on April 18, along with nine other senior officers of the Kenya Defence Forces.

Ahead of the burial, General Ogolla's body was transported to Kisumu International Airport, where it was received with a brief military parade in the presence of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo, and other top military officials. The funeral procession then moved by road to Senator Obama Primary School in Siaya County, where the burial ceremony was conducted.

The ceremony was attended by President William Ruto, First Lady Mama Rachel, and other dignitaries. A 19-gun salute was given, followed by a wreath-laying ceremony to honor the esteemed general. The service included eulogies and tributes, celebrating General Ogolla's impactful career and dedication to service. Military rites were performed at the graveside, which was restricted to limited access to ensure a solemn environment for the final send-off.
