Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-215 in West Valley City
A two-vehicle collision on Interstate 215 near 3100 South in West Valley City, Utah, has resulted in the death of 48-year-old Leonardo Abraham Angel Mejia. The incident occurred around 4:20 p.m. when a Nissan NV200 van drifted out of its lane and struck Mejia's parked Chevy Tahoe on the left shoulder of the road. Mejia, who was outside his vehicle at the time, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Utah Highway Patrol confirmed that the crash caused significant traffic delays, with the left three southbound lanes remaining closed for several hours during the investigation and cleanup. The driver of the Nissan van did not suffer serious injuries. The circumstances leading to the van leaving its lane and why Mejia was outside his vehicle are still under investigation.
