Elon Musk's X Hit with Privacy Complaints Over EU Data Use

X, the social media platform owned by Elon Musk, is facing privacy complaints across Europe for allegedly using EU users' data to train its Grok AI chatbot without their consent. The Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) revealed that X had been processing post data of regional users without obtaining permission, prompting complaints from the European Center for Digital Rights (Noyb). These complaints have been filed with data protection authorities in Austria, Belgium, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, and Spain.

Noyb, a Vienna-based privacy campaign group, claims that X has "irreversibly fed" the personal data of over 60 million European users into its AI technology without informing them or asking for their consent. The group has requested an "urgency procedure" to allow swift action by data protection authorities in the affected countries. This move follows court action by the DPC against X over its data collection practices. Despite X agreeing to suspend the controversial data processing, Noyb founder Max Schrems has criticized the DPC for not questioning the legality of the processing.
