Elaine Thompson-Herah Withdraws From Trials, to Miss Paris Olympics

Elaine Thompson-Herah, a five-time Olympic gold medallist and renowned Jamaican sprinter, has withdrawn from the Jamaican national championships and will not be competing in the Paris Olympics due to an Achilles tendon injury. Thompson-Herah, who made history as the first woman to win back-to-back Olympic sprint doubles in the 100m and 200m events, sustained the injury during the 100m at the NYC Grand Prix earlier this month.

The athlete finished last in her season-opening 100m race at the Prefontaine Classic last month and had last competed in the 200m in April 2023. Despite her recent setbacks, Thompson-Herah, who holds a personal best of 10.54 seconds in the 100m, the second-fastest time in history, expressed her determination to recover and continue her sprinting career. The athletics competition at the Paris Games is scheduled to take place from August 1-11 at the Stade de France.
