Doom: The Dark Ages Arrives on PS5, Xbox, and PC in 2025

id Software has officially announced Doom: The Dark Ages, the latest entry in the Doom franchise, set to release in 2025. This new installment will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and will also be included on Xbox Game Pass. Doom: The Dark Ages is described as a prequel to Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal, exploring the origins of the Doom Slayer in a dark fantasy, medieval-like setting.

The game was revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase with a world-premiere trailer showcasing the Slayer battling enemies, wielding new weapons, and riding a dragon. Notable new gameplay features include a throwable Shield Saw and the ability to summon a shield that returns to the player. The game will be powered by the latest idTech engine, which draws inspiration from the original Doom (1993).

Bethesda Softworks, the game's publisher, emphasizes that Doom: The Dark Ages will provide a single-player action FPS experience, featuring a blend of traditional Doom combat with new fantasy elements. The game will feature both new and familiar weapons and abilities as players confront the legions of Hell. This announcement marks id Software's first new title since Quake Champions in 2022.
