Disney Appoints Gorman to Lead CEO Succession Committee

The Walt Disney Company has appointed James Gorman, executive chairman of Morgan Stanley, as the chair of its Succession Planning Committee. This committee is responsible for identifying a successor to current CEO Bob Iger. Gorman, who joined Disney's board earlier this year, has extensive experience in succession planning, having served as Morgan Stanley's CEO from 2010 to 2023. He will retire from Morgan Stanley in December 2024.

The Succession Planning Committee includes directors Mary Barra, CEO of General Motors, and Calvin McDonald, CEO of Lululemon Athletica. This team has been actively reviewing both internal and external candidates, including Disney Entertainment co-chairs Dana Walden and Alan Bergman, ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro, and Josh D'Amaro, head of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products. The formation of this committee and the ongoing search reflect Disney's focus on aligning the leadership transition with its long-term strategic goals.
