Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley Star in Body Horror Film 'The Substance'
"The Substance," a body horror thriller directed by Coralie Fargeat, premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Best Screenplay award. The film stars Demi Moore as Elisabeth Sparkle, a former Hollywood A-lister who is fired from her fitness TV show by studio head Harvey, played by Dennis Quaid. Margaret Qualley also stars in the film. The storyline follows Sparkle as she uses a revolutionary cell-replicating substance to temporarily transform into a younger version of herself.
Mubi has acquired the North American distribution rights for the film and released a teaser trailer ahead of its September 20, 2024, theatrical release. The film will also be distributed by Mubi in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria, and Latin America. The trailer features high-energy imagery and highlights themes of body image and societal pressures. The movie is expected to be released on Blu-Ray following its theatrical run.
