Darius Rucker Arrested for Drugs, Ex Calls It Karma

During a routine traffic stop in Franklin, Tennessee, country singer Darius Rucker was found with marijuana and psychedelic pills. Rucker, known for his role as the frontman of Hootie & the Blowfish, was pulled over for expired vehicle tags. Upon investigation, officers discovered a jar of unmarked pills, later identified as psilocybin, commonly known as magic mushrooms, by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

Rucker was charged with two counts of simple possession/casual exchange of a controlled substance and a violation of the state's vehicle registration law. After an arrest warrant was issued in December, Rucker turned himself in. He was subsequently released on a $10,500 bond.

In response to Rucker's legal issues, his ex-girlfriend, comedian Kate Quigley, made comments suggesting the arrest was "karma." Quigley, who had a brief relationship with Rucker ending in 2020, survived a fentanyl-laced cocaine overdose that tragically resulted in the death of three of her friends in 2021. Despite their past relationship, Rucker has stated that he and his former wife, Beth Leonard, along with their two children, remain a family unit. Rucker's attorney has conveyed his client's cooperation with the authorities.
