Danny Boyle's '28 Years Later' Sequel Scheduled for June 2025 Release

Director Danny Boyle is set to return to the helm for the next chapter in the "28 Days Later" franchise with "28 Years Later," slated for release in the summer of 2025. Alex Garland, who penned the original film, is back as the screenwriter for the sequel, and both Garland and Boyle are also on board as producers. They are joined by original producer Andrew Macdonald, Peter Rice, Bernie Bellew, and actor Cillian Murphy, who is participating as an executive producer.

The cast for "28 Years Later" features Jack O’Connell, Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes, and Nia DaCosta. As the sequel to both "28 Days Later" and "28 Weeks Later," the film continues the legacy of the franchise that is credited with reinvigorating the zombie horror genre. However, specific plot details for the latest installment are currently being kept under wraps.

Production for "28 Years Later" commenced in Northumberland on May 7, 2024, and the release is timed to coincide with the 22-year anniversary of the original film's debut in the United States. The project had been referred to as "28 Months Later" during its preliminary stages, but the title has since evolved to its current form, though it has not been officially confirmed.
