A 27-year-old Cleveland police officer was fatally shot in the Hough neighborhood early Thursday morning. The incident occurred around 1 a.m. near East 80th Street and Wade Park Avenue as officers were serving a warrant for felonious assault. Multiple officers were present at the scene when the suspect, a 24-year-old man, opened fire, hitting the officer multiple times.

The officer, who had served with the Cleveland Police Department for four years, was transported to University Hospitals where he succumbed to his injuries. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the hospital as a precaution but did not sustain any injuries. Cleveland Police Chief Dorothy Todd has confirmed the suspect is in custody and will be transferred to the Cuyahoga County jail.
