Chargers Sign Receiver DJ Chark to Strengthen Offense

Wide receiver DJ Chark has signed a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Chargers, a deal that could be worth up to $5 million. Chark, a six-season NFL veteran, comes from the Carolina Panthers, where he played the previous season. Before his time with the Panthers, he spent four seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he achieved his career-best in 2019, recording 73 receptions for 1,008 yards and eight touchdowns, earning him a Pro Bowl selection.

The Chargers' receiving corps, which lacks a receiver with more than three years of experience or a season exceeding 800 yards, will benefit from Chark's addition. His tenure in the league has seen him amass 147 receptions for 2,042 yards and 15 touchdowns over 43 games with the Jaguars and tally 525 yards in 15 games with the Lions. Despite a history of injuries that limited him to playing 54 out of a possible 82 games in the last five seasons, Chark's experience is expected to bolster the Chargers' lineup.

Chark's arrival coincides with significant changes in the Chargers' roster, following the trade of wide receiver Keenan Allen, the release of Mike Williams, and the departures of tight end Gerald Everett and running back Austin Ekeler in free agency. The Chargers aim to revamp their receiver group, which also includes recent draftees, as they look to get younger and faster. Chark will be reunited with former teammates tight end Hayden Hurst and center Bradley Bozeman in Los Angeles.
