President Joe Biden is set to present the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the United States, to a group of 19 individuals. The awardees include political leaders such as former Vice President Al Gore, former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Representative James Clyburn, and former Secretary of State John Kerry. Additionally, the list encompasses former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, actress Michelle Yeoh, Olympic swimmer Katie Ledecky, and civil rights figures like Judy Shepard and Clarence Jones.

The ceremony will recognize the diverse contributions of these individuals to American society, politics, entertainment, sports, and civil rights advocacy. Recipients such as Elizabeth Dole and the late Senator Frank Lautenberg will also be honored for their public service. The award highlights individuals who have made significant contributions to the prosperity, values, or security of the United States, world peace, or other significant societal, public, or private endeavors.

This prestigious recognition is awarded at the discretion of the President and serves to acknowledge the extraordinary achievements of American citizens. Among the honorees, several will receive the award posthumously, including civil rights leader Medgar Evers. The recipients represent a broad spectrum of American life and achievement, and the White House ceremony will formally bestow this honor upon them.
