Atari 50 Expanded Edition Adds 39 Games and New Timelines

Atari has announced an expanded edition of its interactive documentary game, Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration, set to release on October 25, 2024. The new version, developed by Digital Eclipse, will introduce 39 additional games and two new timelines: "The Wider World of Atari" and "The First Console War." The Wider World of Atari timeline includes 19 playable games and eight video segments, while The First Console War timeline focuses on the rivalry between Atari 2600 and Mattel's Intellivision.

The Expanded Edition will be available on multiple platforms, including PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Atari VCS. The standard physical edition will retail at $39.99, and a collector's SteelBook edition will be available exclusively for the Switch. Existing owners of Atari 50 will be able to access the new content as downloadable content (DLC) later in the year.

In addition to the new games and timelines, the Expanded Edition will feature interviews with notable figures such as former Intellivision game director Don Daglow, M Network programmer Jane Terjung, Activision's David Crane and Garry Kitchen, homebrew programmer Dennis Debro, and historians Leonard Herman and Mike Mika. These interviews, along with historical documents and artifacts, aim to provide a comprehensive look at Atari's impact on the gaming industry and its historical context.
