AI Achieves 98% Accuracy in Diagnosing Diseases Through Tongue Analysis

Researchers from Middle Technical University (MTU) in Iraq and the University of South Australia (UniSA) have developed a machine learning algorithm that can diagnose various diseases with 98% accuracy by analyzing the color of the human tongue. This system is capable of identifying conditions such as diabetes, stroke, anemia, asthma, liver and gallbladder issues, and COVID-19, among other vascular and gastrointestinal diseases.

The breakthrough was achieved through experiments using 5,260 tongue images from two teaching hospitals in the Middle East. The AI model successfully matched tongue color with the correct disease in nearly all cases. The researchers suggest that this technology could be adapted for use with smartphones, making disease screening more accessible and potentially reducing healthcare costs.
