'VIRAASAT' Exhibition Launches at Delhi Haat for National Handloom Day Celebration
The Ministry of Textiles in India has organised a fortnight-long exhibition named "VIRAASAT" to commemorate the 10th National Handloom Day. The event, held at Handlo Haat in Janpath, New Delhi, began on August 3, 2024, and will conclude on August 16, 2024. The National Handloom Development Corporation Ltd (NHDC), an arm of the Textiles Ministry, is responsible for organising the expo, which aims to increase the market for handloom products and boost the earnings of the handloom community.
The exhibition features 75 stalls where handloom weavers and artisans can directly sell their products. Other activities include workshops on natural dyes, Kasturi cotton, design, and exports, as well as live loom demonstrations. Additional attractions such as folk dances and regional cuisines are also part of the event. The handloom sector, which employs approximately 35 lakh people directly or indirectly, plays a significant role in India's socio-economic development. The government has also introduced schemes to promote high-quality handloom products with zero defects and minimal environmental impact.
