Solana Discreetly Patches Critical Flaw to Avoid Outage

Solana developers, validators, and client teams have successfully addressed a critical security vulnerability in the network. The Solana Foundation, alongside prominent ecosystem participants such as Anza, Jito, and other client teams, implemented a patch by first contacting known network operators discreetly to secure the majority of the network's stake. The fix was distributed through private channels and made available via an Anza engineer's GitHub repository, allowing operators to independently verify and apply the changes.

The vulnerability was publicly disclosed only after 70% of the network had been patched, at which point Solana Labs issued a Discord announcement urging the remaining operators to update their systems. This strategic approach aimed to prevent potential network outages and maintain blockchain integrity. The recent patch follows a previous network outage on February 6, which halted block production for over five hours and led some exchanges to ban the trading of tokens built on Solana's platform. The network is still in its beta phase, with developers continuing to refine its final form.
