Raspberry Pi 5 Launches Affordable 2GB RAM Version for $50

The Raspberry Pi Foundation has introduced a new 2GB RAM variant of the Raspberry Pi 5, priced at $50. This new model is intended to offer a more cost-effective option while maintaining the essential functionalities of its higher-memory counterparts. The Raspberry Pi 5 uses the cost-optimized Broadcom BCM2712 application processor, which features a quad-core Arm Cortex-A76 CPU running at 2.4GHz and the latest iteration of the VideoCore multimedia platform. This processor variant eliminates non-essential functionalities, making the device more affordable without compromising its core capabilities.

The new 2GB variant retains the same features as the 4GB and 8GB models, including dual HDMI ports supporting up to 4Kp60 with HDR, video input/output capabilities, and a PCIe 2.0 x1 FFC connector. The Raspberry Pi Foundation CEO, Eben Upton, emphasized that the new version is "functionally identical" to its predecessors, making it suitable for a variety of applications, including AI tasks and media centers. The launch of this model aims to cater to users who require a powerful single-board computer but do not need the higher RAM capacity, thus providing a more economical option for various projects.
