Qualcomm Acquires Sequans' 4G IoT Technology
Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) has entered into an agreement to acquire 4G IoT technologies from Sequans Communications S.A. (NYSE: SQNS), a supplier of 4G and 5G semiconductor solutions for the Internet of Things (IoT). The acquisition includes certain employees, assets, and licenses and is pending French regulatory approval. This strategic move is intended to bolster Qualcomm's Industrial IoT portfolio and enhance its position in digital transformation at the edge.
Under the terms of the agreement, Sequans will retain the rights to use the 4G technology commercially through a perpetual license agreement, allowing the company to continue expanding its 4G business and developing its 5G portfolio. The financial details of the deal have not been disclosed. The transaction is expected to provide Sequans with additional resources and flexibility to enhance its product offerings and market presence.
