Minister Bittu Promises Swift Approval for Mohali-Rajpura Rail Link

Union Minister of State for Railways, Ravneet Singh Bittu, announced the expedited commencement of the Mohali-Rajpura broad-gauge rail link project. This project aims to connect Chandigarh with Punjab via the shortest link on the New Delhi-Amritsar main line at Sarai Banjara. The link, covering 38.880 kilometers and spanning 43.192 hectares across three districts, will significantly reduce travel distance by 55 km compared to the existing Rajpura-Ambala and Mohali-Morinda routes.

The revised Detailed Project Report (DPR), initially prepared in 2016-17 with a project cost of Rs 312.53 crore, will be updated and shared with the Punjab government for further action. This project has faced delays due to lack of response from the state government and a previously negative rate of return. In addition, 30 railway stations in Punjab are undergoing redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, which includes enhancements such as improved station buildings, city center plazas, recreational facilities, and better parking.
