McLaren Health Care Back to Normal After Cyberattack
McLaren Health Care in Grand Blanc, Michigan, has restored its clinical systems and electronic medical records following a cyberattack in early August. The health system detected suspicious activity on its IT platforms on August 5, prompting internal teams to disconnect the network from the internet and bring in cybersecurity experts to investigate. The attack, confirmed to be criminal in nature, led to a temporary disruption of services.
As of now, all clinical and administrative operations across McLaren’s 13 hospitals, Karmanos cancer centers, and outpatient clinics are fully functional. Temporary procedures that were put in place during the disruption have been lifted, and the process of manually inputting patient health records into the electronic system is expected to continue for several weeks. McLaren is working with cybersecurity experts to determine if any patient or employee information was compromised. If any information is found to have been breached, affected individuals will be contacted directly. Patients are encouraged to seek care as they normally would.
