Law Bars Sending Khaleda Zia Abroad for Treatment: Minister

Law Minister Anisul Huq has clarified that there is no legal provision allowing BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia to be sent abroad for medical treatment. This announcement was made during the inaugural ceremony of the 152nd Refresher Course for Senior Assistant Judges at the Judicial Administration Training Institute. Despite the initiation of a process to install a pacemaker for Zia's cardiovascular treatment, Huq emphasized that her jail sentence was suspended under an executive order based on specific legal provisions, and there is no current legal scope for her to seek treatment overseas.

Additionally, Huq addressed the issue of government officials' wealth statements, dismissing the need for a new law to mandate the submission of such statements. He noted that existing provisions already require officials to submit their wealth statements at the entry stage of their services and to update them periodically.
