Kamala Harris Open to Discussing Israel Arms Embargo
U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris has reportedly expressed openness to discussing an arms embargo on Israel, according to various sources. This follows a meeting with the founders of the Uncommitted National Movement, Abbas Alawieh and Layla Elabed, during a campaign stop in Michigan. The movement, which urges Democrats to boycott the upcoming elections over U.S. support for Israel in its conflict with Hamas, presented their concerns about the U.S. arms supply to Israel and requested further discussions with Harris.
However, Harris's campaign has denied any formal agreement to discuss an arms embargo. A campaign spokesman clarified that Harris will continue to engage with Arab, Muslim, and Palestinian communities, emphasizing efforts to secure a cease-fire and a hostage deal for Israel. This comes amid increasing pressure from pro-Palestinian activists, who have called for a more critical stance against Israel's actions in Gaza. Harris's choice of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate has been seen as an attempt to balance differing views within the Democratic Party on this issue.
