KAA assures no airport disruptions despite aviation workers' strike notice
The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has responded to a strike notice issued by the Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU), assuring the public that airport operations will continue without disruptions. The strike, planned for August 19, 2024, is in protest of a proposed deal with Adani Airport Holdings of India to develop Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). The union claims that the deal would result in job losses and the influx of non-Kenyan workers, and has called for the resignation of the entire KAA Board of Directors.
KAA confirmed that discussions are ongoing between the Ministry of Roads and Transport, Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, KAA Management, and KAWU to reach an amicable agreement. Acting Managing Director Henry Ogoye assured passengers that contingency measures have been put in place to ensure that airport operations remain uninterrupted. Despite the union's demands to halt the privatization of JKIA and make management changes, KAA remains committed to maintaining high standards of service across its facilities.
