Hassan Joho Declares Net Worth of Ksh 2.3 Billion
Hassan Joho, the nominee for Kenya's Cabinet Secretary for Mining and Blue Economy, has disclosed a net worth of KSh 2.3 billion during his vetting by the National Assembly Committee on Appointments. Joho detailed that his wealth includes homes in Mombasa, Vipingo, Malindi, and Nairobi, as well as shareholdings in various family-owned businesses and other assets. He emphasized that his business operations are legitimate and can withstand scrutiny, rejecting any allegations linking him to drug trafficking.
Joho also addressed his background, noting that he came from a poor family and had to interrupt his education due to financial constraints. Despite these challenges, he asserted that his credentials have been thoroughly vetted by several government bodies, including the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC). Joho stated that he has never been barred from traveling to the United States and that any claims of ongoing investigations into his business practices are unfounded. If confirmed, Joho plans to engage with international investors to bolster Kenya's mining sector.
