Google Pixel 9 Series to Feature Major Display Upgrades and Brighter Screens
Google is set to launch its new Pixel 9 series on August 13, featuring three models: Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel Pro XL. The new devices are expected to have significant hardware upgrades, particularly in their displays. According to reports, the Pixel 9 will feature a 6.24-inch display with a peak HDR brightness of 1,800 nits, an improvement over the Pixel 8's 1,400 nits. The Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel Pro XL will reportedly have even brighter screens, with a peak brightness of 2,050 nits, surpassing the 1,600 nits of the Pixel 8 Pro. These displays will use Samsung's M14 OLED panels, which are also rumored to be used in Apple's upcoming iPhone 16 Pro series.
Additionally, Google is also expected to introduce the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, a foldable phone with upgraded twin displays. The foldable will feature an 8-inch inner display and a 6.24-inch outer display, offering higher pixel density and improved resolutions. This new foldable model will likely compete with other high-end foldable phones like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and the OnePlus Open. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold's inner display will have a brightness of 1,600 nits, while the outer display will also see enhancements in pixel density.
Evan Blass has shared renders of the upcoming devices, highlighting their similarities and confirming the use of Samsung-made M14 OLED panels. The Pixel 9 series will feature a 120Hz refresh rate across all models, with varying screen sizes and resolutions. The base Pixel 9 will have a 1,080 x 2,424 px resolution, while the larger models will offer more vivid visuals with higher resolutions. Pricing details for the new series have not yet been announced.
