'Gidget' and 'T.J. Hooker' Actor James Darren Dies at 88
James Darren, the actor and singer known for his roles in the "Gidget" films and "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," has passed away at the age of 88. Darren died in his sleep at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where he was being treated for heart issues. His son, Jim Moret, confirmed the news, noting that Darren had been too weak to undergo a surgical aorta valve replacement.
Darren rose to fame in the 1950s, starring as Moondoggie in Columbia Pictures’ "Gidget" films. He also enjoyed a successful music career, with hits like "Goodbye Cruel World." Throughout his career, Darren made numerous guest appearances on TV shows and directed episodes of series such as "Melrose Place" and "Beverly Hills, 90210." He is survived by his wife Evy, sons Jim, Christian, and Anthony Darren, and five grandchildren.
