Foxtrot Reopening First Chicago Store in Gold Coast This Week
Foxtrot, a Chicago-based convenience store and café chain, is set to reopen its Gold Coast location on September 5. This marks the chain's return after abruptly closing all 33 of its stores in April due to bankruptcy following a merger with Dom's Kitchen & Market. The Gold Coast reopening will feature an expanded coffee experience and a reimagined food menu that includes breakfast tacos, panini sandwiches, salads, bowls, and fresh-baked cookies. Customers will receive free coffee from 6 to 10 a.m. on opening day.
The reopening is spearheaded by Foxtrot co-founder Mike LaVitola, who formed a new entity and acquired Foxtrot's assets for $2.5 million at a bankruptcy auction. The chain's return will focus on showcasing local artisan snacks and avoiding the pitfalls that led to its initial closure. Future plans include reopening additional locations in Chicago and Dallas throughout 2025, although specific numbers are not being disclosed. The chain aims to revive its roots and maintain partnerships with longtime Chicago roasters and local vendors.
