Five hospitalized after chlorine reaction during pool preparations

Five people, including two children, were hospitalized after a chemical reaction involving chlorine at a home swimming pool in Eastlake, Ohio. The incident occurred shortly before 6:15 p.m. on St. Lawrence Boulevard. The victims were taken to various hospitals for treatment, with two adults transported to University Hospital-Willoughby, one adult to the main campus, and two children to Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital. Their conditions are reported to be stable.

In a separate incident, five people were also hospitalized in Aurora, Colorado, after a pool pump malfunctioned and leaked chemicals into the air at the Del Mar Family Aquatic Center. Aurora Fire Rescue responded to the scene, evacuated the pool, and treated seven individuals for non-life-threatening injuries. Maintenance personnel had discovered the leak and shut down the pump before emergency crews arrived. The pool remains closed for repairs and due to inclement weather.
