First Trailer for Kyle Mooney’s Y2K Blends Superbad with Tech Mayhem
Kyle Mooney's directorial debut, "Y2K," is set to hit theaters on December 6, 2024. The film, produced by A24, is a disaster comedy that revolves around two high school juniors, Eli (Jaeden Martell) and Danny (Julian Dennison), who crash a New Year's Eve party on the last night of 1999. As the Y2K bug wreaks havoc, the teens find themselves dealing with malfunctioning technology in absurd and violent ways. The cast also includes Rachel Zegler, Fred Durst, Tim Heidecker, Alicia Silverstone, and Eduardo Franco.
The first trailer for "Y2K" has been released, showcasing a mix of late-90s nostalgia, horror, and comedy. The trailer features numerous pre-2000 references and graphic moments, including a Tamagotchi inflicting harm and a VHS player attacking students. Despite mixed early reviews from its world premiere at South by Southwest (SXSW) in March 2024, the film has been noted for its unique blend of humor and horror, drawing comparisons to movies like "Superbad" and "Maximum Overdrive." The film is co-written by Evan Winter and produced by Jonah Hill.
