Deadpool & Wolverine Almost Featured Iron Man Cameo and Avengers
Screenwriters Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese revealed that Robert Downey Jr. was initially considered for a cameo in "Deadpool & Wolverine" as Tony Stark/Iron Man. The scene, intended to feature Jon Favreau's Happy Hogan and the Avengers, would have shown Deadpool, played by Ryan Reynolds, attempting to join the superhero team. However, Downey declined the role, and the sequence was ultimately scrapped.
Downey was also originally set to appear as Doctor Doom, but this plan did not come to fruition. The writers were unaware of Marvel Studios' broader plans for Downey when they pitched the cameo, which led to the character's exclusion. Additionally, an early version of the script included a scene where Deadpool would verbally attack the Avengers, but this idea was abandoned due to logistical challenges and potential costs. Despite these changes, Jon Favreau's Happy Hogan was included in the film, and Ryan Reynolds expressed gratitude for Favreau's participation.
