Craig Wright Faces UK Perjury Charges Over Bitcoin Claims

Australian computer scientist Craig Wright, who has long claimed to have invented bitcoin, has been referred to British prosecutors for alleged perjury by a judge at London's High Court. The judge found that Wright had lied "extensively and repeatedly" to support his assertion that he authored the 2008 white paper on bitcoin under the pseudonym "Satoshi Nakamoto."

In March, Judge James Mellor ruled that the evidence overwhelmingly indicated Wright was not the elusive Nakamoto. The case was initiated by the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA) to prevent Wright from suing bitcoin developers. The matter will now be reviewed by Britain's Director of Public Prosecutions to determine whether Wright should face perjury charges.
