Classic DOOM Games Updated with New Levels and Features

id Software has announced an enhanced bundle combining the classic games DOOM (1993) and DOOM II, featuring all previously released levels and a new single-player episode titled "Legacy of Rust." This enhanced bundle includes support for 4K resolution and 120 FPS on compatible hardware, cross-play options, and new soundtracks composed by Andrew Hulshult. Additionally, it will feature online, cross-platform deathmatch and co-op support for up to 16 players, upgraded visuals, and modern controller support.

The compilation, developed in collaboration with Nightdive Studios and MachineGames, also offers new accessibility options, including high-contrast mode and text-to-speech. Community-published mod support will be available with an in-game mod browser, and the bundle will include 187 mission maps and 43 deathmatch maps. Additional content includes TNT: Evilution, The Plutonia Experiment, Master Levels for DOOM II, and Sigil. While the bundle is not currently available for purchase, it is expected to be released during QuakeCon 2024.

QuakeCon 2024 will also see the announcement of the next installment in the DOOM series, DOOM: The Dark Ages, set for a 2025 release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The upcoming enhanced bundle and the new game signify continued support and expansion of the DOOM franchise, catering to both long-time fans and new players with modernized features and additional content.
