Chidinma Adetshina Wins Miss Universe Nigeria After SA Pageant Dispute
Chidimma Adetshina, a 23-year-old law student from South Africa, has been crowned Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 after withdrawing from the Miss South Africa pageant. Adetshina, who has a Nigerian father and a Mozambican mother, faced significant controversy in South Africa, where her nationality and eligibility were questioned. This led to an investigation by South Africa’s Home Affairs Ministry, which uncovered potential identity issues involving her mother.
Despite the challenges, Adetshina emerged victorious over 24 other contestants at the Miss Universe Nigeria event held at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos. The organisers of the Nigerian contest invited her to participate, offering her a chance to represent her father's native country on an international stage. Adetshina will now represent Nigeria at the Miss Universe competition in November.
