Boater Claims Ignorance in Fatal Crash That Killed Teen Wakeboarder
In Biscayne Bay, Florida, a boating incident resulted in the death of 15-year-old Ella Adler while she was wakeboarding. Carlos Guillermo Alonso, 78, identified as the owner and sole occupant of the boat in question, has denied knowing that his boat was involved in the accident that led to the fatal injury of the teen ballerina. According to Alonso's lawyer, Lauren Field Krasnoff, her client is "devastated" and was unaware of any connection to the incident until approached by law enforcement.
Witnesses reported the vessel involved as a center console boat with a light blue hull, multiple white outboard engines, and blue bottom paint. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has seized a boat that matches the description and is believed to be connected to the hit-and-run. However, as the investigation continues, no criminal charges have been filed against Alonso.
The FWC's report indicates that Adler and a friend were being towed on a wakeboard and wake surfboard when they fell into the water. It was then that Adler was struck by another vessel. Alonso's attorney has stated that he is cooperating fully with authorities and, to date, has had no previous contact with the criminal justice system regarding this case. The community has been left in shock by the tragic event as the FWC proceeds with its investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the accident.
