Battlefield 2042 to Culminate with Season 7 as New Game Advances

Electronic Arts (EA) has revealed that Battlefield 2042's Season 7 will be the final season for the game as the company shifts its focus toward the future of the franchise. Despite this being the last season, EA has assured players that it will continue to support Battlefield 2042 with in-game challenges, events, modes, and maintenance. The final season includes new content such as a reimagined map, a new light machine gun, additional in-game events, and a new vehicle.

As part of this transition, EA is expanding its development team. The Montreal-based studio EA Motive, known for the Dead Space remake, is joining the Battlefield franchise. This studio, led by Roman Campos-Oriola and Phillipe Ducharme, will work alongside existing teams at Criterion and Ripple Effect. The development of the Connected Battlefield Universe, a concept that aims to unify multiplayer and single-player experiences, is moving forward, and it will be supervised by Vince Zampella, founder of Respawn Entertainment.

The changes in development strategy come after EA has faced internal challenges, including layoffs and the closure of Ridgeline Games. Despite these hurdles, the company is committed to developing the future of the Battlefield series, which may include multiple connected games. Moreover, EA is keen to assure that this shift in focus will not affect the development of their upcoming Iron Man game, which remains a priority.
