Apple Lays Off 100 Employees in Digital Services Amid Priority Shift
Apple Inc. has laid off approximately 100 employees in its digital services group, as part of a shift in priorities within the division. The layoffs affected various teams, including those responsible for the Apple Books app, Apple Bookstore, and Apple News. The job cuts were communicated to employees on Tuesday and involved some engineering roles as well.
The move comes amid a broader reorganization within Apple, which has previously included job cuts in other projects such as its self-driving car initiative and microLED display efforts. Despite the layoffs, the services division remains a significant part of Apple's operations, contributing to over 22% of the company's revenue in the last fiscal year. The total number of employees in the services division remains undisclosed, but Apple had approximately 161,000 full-time equivalent employees as of September 30, 2023.
