AMD Introduces Ryzen Pro 8000 CPUs with AI Capabilities for Business PCs

AMD has unveiled its latest generation of processors targeting the business market with the introduction of the AMD PRO 8000 series for desktops and the AMD PRO 8040 series for mobile devices. These processors integrate advanced CPU, GPU, and AI capabilities, with some models featuring a neural processing unit (NPU) for hardware-accelerated AI tasks. The inclusion of Zen 4 CPU cores, RDNA 3 GPU cores, and XDNA NPUs is aimed at providing a significant performance boost, with AMD claiming up to 3x the graphics performance and up to 47% better overall performance compared to previous generations.

However, not all processors in the lineup include AI NPU capabilities, with certain AMD Ryzen PRO 8000 APUs (8500G/GE & 8300G/GA) lacking this feature. The new processors are also the first to offer Microsoft Pluton security, which is set to be integrated into desktop PCs starting in 2024. AMD's push into the enterprise market includes enhanced PRO Security and management features, positioning their chips as a competitive alternative to Intel's vPRO technologies.

AMD's processors are set to be available internationally starting April 16 and will be incorporated into select HP and Lenovo laptops and desktops. The company emphasizes that the new processors will help businesses optimize AI applications and ensure robust security and recovery options for corporate IT departments. While AMD has compared the performance of their processors favorably against Intel's Core Ultra "Meteor Lake" chips, no benchmarks have been provided for Linux systems at this time.
